Bible Verse of the Day October 17, 2026: Psalm 113:7-8
“He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth the needy out of the dunghill; that he may set him with princes, even with the princes of his people.” (Psalm 113:7-8, KJV)
Meaning of the Verse
This psalm celebrates a God who is high above the nations, yet bends down to notice the lowest and most overlooked. Those who feel forgotten are never forgotten by Him.
“He raiseth up the poor out of the dust”
God is not distant from poverty and hardship. He lifts people up, and often He does it through the kindness of others.
“Lifteth the needy”
The word “lifteth” shows active care. God sees the needy and moves on their behalf.
“That he may set him with princes”
God does not only relieve need. He restores dignity and honour. His aim is to give people a place of worth.
Context
Psalm 113 begins the “Hallel” psalms, sung at Jewish festivals. It praises God for His greatness and for His tenderness toward the humble. The same pattern appears in Hannah’s song (1 Samuel 2:8).
How to Apply It Today
- If you feel overlooked, remember that God sees you.
- Look for someone who is overlooked and notice them: greet them, include them or help them.
- Give thanks for the times God lifted you up.
Short Prayer
Lord, thank You that You see the lowly and lift them up. Use me to bring dignity and help to someone today. Amen.
